FAQs

WHAT MAKES A GOOD HEADSHOT?

A good headshot should be the best and most natural version of you. A headshot is not glamour or fashion photography; not a selfie or family snap shot. It's a business card and in the sea of actors headshots you want yours stands out to agents, casting agents and directors. That is why it's so important to engage a professional headshot photographer.

HOW TO PREPARE

The day before your session drink lots of water and get a good night's sleep. Chat to your agent about what kind of looks you want to achieve. If you don't have an agent make sure you think about what you want and let me know on the day. I have over twenty years industry experience and can guide you in the right direction. A few days before your shoot organise what clothes or 'looks' you'd like to try. Think about the roles you go for and chose clothes accordingly. Keep them simple ... big patterns and boxy shapes don't work. Bright colours can work well but make sure they match your skin tone. Layers are great! Make sure you read the info PDF I send you when you book.

BUT I HATE HAVING MY PHOTO TAKEN!

I know! Me too! It's the worst! But after years of taking photos I firmly believe that everyone can look good in a photo. With a good photographer who makes you feel relaxed, great light, great hair and make up and just a touch of photoshop everyone can have a great looking headshot.

ON THE DAY

Arrive on time or even a bit early. I can make you a coffee, we can chat and you can relax. It's OK to be nervous. It's my job to make you feel relaxed and I have a whole bag of tips and tricks to help you do so.

CAN I VIEW THE HEADSHOTS AS WE GO?

Yes! Absolutely. This is a really important part of the way I work. I think of my shoots as a collaboration between photographer, actor and hair and make up artist. With your input, we can work out the best poses and looks and get the best results.

DO YOU TAKE HEADSHOTS FOR KIDS?

I sure do! I have a great rapport with kids, know how to make them laugh and stand still! I have a current Working With Children Check. Children under the age of 16 need to be accompanied by an adult.

WHAT NEXT?

Turn around time for PDF proof sheets is 2-3 days. Take your time looking at the photos; it can be overwhelming at first but I always tell my clients to sleep on it and look again in the morning - with fresh eyes. Show the photos to your agent. If you don't have an agent show them to someone who can give you a professional opinion, like an acting coach. Once you've decided on which photos you'd like retouched let me know. Turn around time for retouched images is 2-3 days.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

My headshot sessions consist of a 10 minute pre shoot consultation followed by a 1 hour photoshoot. This cost $340. This price includes three retouched photos of your choice.
